NHL: N.Y. Rangers 6, Washington 4

NEW YORK, March 17 (UPI) -- New York's Jaromir Jagr scored the decisive goal in the third period as the Rangers downed the visiting Washington Capitals, 5-4, at Madison Square Garden.

Jagr also added an assist for the Rangers, who ended a six-game losing streak and regained sole possession of first place in the Atlantic division.

Sandis Ozolinsh scored his first goal as a Ranger, while Michael Nylander and Martin Straka each had two assists in the win. Steve Rucchin, Petr Prucha, and Petr Sykora also scored for New York while goaltender Henrik Lundqvist stopped 36 of 40 shots.

For Washington, Brian Sutherby tallied a goal and an assist. Brian Willsie, Bryan Muir and Chris Clark also scored while netminder Olaf Kolzig stopped 22 shots.
