NHL: Carolina 4, N.Y. Islanders 1

RALEIGH, N.C., Jan. 6 (UPI) -- Cory Stillman and Rod Brind'Amour scored power play goals Friday night as Carolina beat the New York Islanders, 4-1.

Kevyn Adams and Justin Williams each added a goal and an assist; Ray Whitney had two assists; Oleg Tverdovsky and Frantisek Kaberle assisted once; and Cam Ward made 28 saves for the Hurricanes (26-10-4), who have won three straight games and are 8


1 in their last nine home games.

Eric Godard had the lone New York goal with assists from Arron Asham and Shawn Bates, while goaltender Wade Dubielewicz -- making his second NHL start -- stopped 31 of 34 shots for the Islanders (18-20-2), who lost for the sixth time in their last seven games.

On the power play, Carolina was 2-for-7. The Islanders went 0-for-4. The Hurricanes out-shot the Islanders, 35-29.
