NHL: Dallas 5, Carolina 4 (OT)

DALLAS, Dec. 2 (UPI) -- Mike Modano scored the winning goal in a shootout and had two goals in regulation to lead the Dallas Stars to a 5-4 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes.

Niko Kapanen and Brenden Morrow also scored for the Stars, who won their last three games. Johan Hedberg made 16 saves in the victory.

Justin Williams had a goal and an assist and Niklas Nordgren, Andrew Ladd, and Cory Stillman each scored for the Hurricanes, who have lost two of their last three games. Martin Gerber made 27 saves in the loss.

Carolina scored two goals in the third period to tie the game. Neither team scored in the extra session, despite Carolina having two power plays.
