NBA: San Antonio 102, Denver 91

SAN ANTONIO, Nov. 1 (UPI) -- Tony Parker scored 26 points and Tim Duncan added 19 points and 10 rebounds as San Antonio began defense of its NBA title with a 102-91 victory over Denver.

Michael Finley, acquired in the offseason after being waived by Dallas, scored 16 points for the Spurs, who improved to 14-4 all-time in home openers.

Carmelo Anthony had 23 points and eight rebounds and Kenyon Martin 19 points for the Nuggets, who have lost 16 of their last 18 games in San Antonio.

Denver played without Coach George Karl, who was serving the first game of a two-game suspension for a violation of the league's draft rules.
