U.S. wins the Presidents Cup

GAINESVILLE, Va., Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Chris DiMarco sank a 12-foot birdie putt on the last hole to beat Stuart Appleby, as the United States took The Presidents Cup over the Internationals Sunday.

The final score was 18 1/2 - 15 1/2.

The victory gave Jack Nicklaus his first Presidents Cup win in three tries as U.S. captain. It was the first American victory in a Presidents Cup or Ryder Cup since the 2000 Presidents Cup.

DiMarco's birdie gave the United States the 18 points needed to win the Cup.

In other key results on the final day, Justin Leonard won, 4 & 3 over Tim Clark; David Toms beat Trevor Immelman, 2 and 1; Kenny Perry was 4 & 3 victor winner over Mark Hensby; Fred Couples topped Vijay Singh, 1-up; Tiger Woods lost to Retief Goosen, 2 and 1; and Jim Furyk -- who went 3


2 for the U.S. team -- topped Adam Scott, 3 & 2.
