MLB: N.Y. Yankees 7, Oakland 0

OAKLAND, Calif., Sept. 3 (UPI) -- Jason Giambi hit a three-run homer in a six-run seventh Saturday as the New York Yankees pounded Oakland, 7-0.

Alex Rodriguez had three hits and two RBI and Hideki Matsui also drove in two runs. Matsui became the third Yankee with 100 RBI this season, joining Rodriguez and Gary Sheffield.

Winner Aaron Small, who was an emergency starter for Mike Mussina, improved to 6-0 with his first career shutout. Ironically, Small pitched in 107 games for the Athletics from 1996-98. He now is 4-0 with a 2.06 ERA in his six starts this season.

Scott Hatteberg had two of the Athletics' five hits. The A's still have won eight of 11.

Oakland loser Kirk Saarloos fell to 9-7. He suffered his first loss since July 18.

Oakland was shut out for the 11th time this season, the most in the majors.
