MLB: Seattle 5, N.Y. Yankees 1

SEATTLE, Sept. 1 (UPI) -- Jose Lopez had two RBI and Raul Ibanez and Dave Hansen had two hits each Thursday afternoon as Seattle beat the New York Yankees, 5-1.

Lopez hit a two-run homer and catcher Manuel Ojeda added a solo shot in a three-run eighth inning against reliever Ramiro Mendoza, who was recalled from Triple-A Columbus earlier in the day. Ibanez went 2-for-3 and scored two runs, while Hansen and Adrian Beltre each drove in a run for Seattle, which has won three of five.

The pitchers of record were both relievers. Seattle's George Sherrill improved to 3-2 while New York's Tanyon Sturtze dropped to 4-3.

Robinson Cano had two of the Yankees' six hits and Alex Rodriguez had their lone RBI.

It was the Yankees' second loss in three games.

New York starter Jaret Wright took a line drive off his right collarbone in the sixth inning. X-rays were negative.
