Sorenstam wins Scandinavian TPC

MALMO, Sweden, Aug. 7 (UPI) -- Annika Sorenstam hit a long birdie putt at No. 18 Sunday to ease past Natalie Gulbis and win the Scandinavian TPC.

Sorenstam -- who served as host of the tournament -- shot an even-par 72 in the final round and ended at 4-under-par 284, beating the 22-year-old Gulbis by one stroke. Carin Koch, Gwladys Nocera and Patricia Meunier-Lebouc tied for third place at even-par 288.

Gulbis held a one-shot lead over Sorenstam through 16 after three straight birdies, starting at No. 14, but Sorenstam birdied No. 17 to pull even. With a chance to earn her first professional title -- or at least force a playoff -- Gulbis missed a birdie try on the last hole.

Sorenstam then clinched the victory with her birdie putt.

Suzann Pettersen finished alone in sixth at 1-over 289 after shooting 76 on Sunday. Helen Alfredsson and Maria Hjorth tied for seventh at 2-over 290.
