PHOENIX, July 9 (UPI) -- Ken Griffey Jr. hit a three-run homer in the eighth inning and Rich Aurilia got a game-winning single in the ninth as the Cincinnati Reds beat Arizona, 4-3.
The late-game rally gave the Reds victory in Game 1 of a three-game weekend series against the Diamondbacks at Bank One Ballpark in Phoenix. Aurilia had three hits as the Reds ended a two-game skid with only their 10th road win of the season.
Griffey's 518th career home run extended a 10-game hitting streak.
Craig Counsell had a solo homer and Troy Glaus added a two-run shot for Arizona, as the Diamondbacks lost for the fourth time in five games.
David Weathers (5-1) threw one inning for the win, while Kent Mercker earned his second save. Lance Cormier (4-1) suffered the loss.
