Furyk wins Western Open

LEMONT, Ill., July 3 (UPI) -- Jim Furyk shot a 2-under 69 Sunday to win the Western Open golf tournament at Lemont, Ill., by two shots over Tiger Woods.

It was Furyk's 10th career victory on the PGA Tour and first since the 2003 Buick Open.

Woods, a three-time Western Open winner, shot a 5-under 66 over the final 18 holes and finished at 12-under-par 272.

Furyk lost the Barclays Classic by one stroke last Sunday when Padraig Harrington made an eagle on 18. He started Sunday's round tied for the lead with former British Open champion Ben Curtis, who shot a 3-over 74 Sunday to finish third at 9-under 275.

Billy Mayfair was fourth at 8-under-par 276. Pat Perez and Brett Quigley followed at 7-under-par 277.

Shaun Micheel, Heath Slocum and Charles Warren tied for seventh at 6-under 278.
