MLB: Washington 4, Chicago Cubs 2

CHICAGO, July 2 (UPI) -- Chad Cordero picked up his 26th consecutive save Saturday as the Washington Nationals beat the Chicago Cubs, 4-2.

In relief of winning pitcher Tony Armas Jr., Cordero ran his saves total for the season to 29, long since a franchise record.

Armas (4-4) allowed two runs and seven hits over five innings with one walk and six strikeouts.

Jose Guillen hit his 17th home run for the Nationals, who have won five straight and 10 of 12 overall.

Gary Majewski, Joey Eischen, Hector Carrasco and Cordero all pitched one inning of scoreless relief.

The Cubs now have a three-game losing streak.

Slugger Derrek Lee hit his 25th home run and raised his major league-best batting average to .386.

Loser Jerome Williams dropped to 1-3. He yielded four runs and five hits over seven innings with one walk and three strikeouts.
