MLB: N.Y.Mets 9, Cincinnati 2

NEW YORK, May 16 (UPI) -- Kris Benson pitched the New York Mets to a 9-2 victory Monday night over the Cincinnati Reds.

Benson (1-1) allowed two runs while scattering four hits in 7 2/3 innings to earn his first win of the season. He struck out eight with two walks. He was making just his third start since beginning his season on May 5 after coming off the disabled list.

Cliff Floyd had a solo home run and Kaz Matsui and Doug Mientkiewicz each had two RBI for the Mets, who snapped a two-game losing streak to climb over the .500 mark (20-19).

Carlos Beltran and David Wright each had an RBI for the Mets.

Felipe Lopez had an RBI double and Jason LaRue an RBI single for the Reds, who have lost four of their last six games. Reds starter and former Met Paul Wilson (1-5) gave up seven runs on eight hits and was charged with the loss.
