Canada vs. Czech Republic in hockey final

INNSBRUCK, Austria, May 14 (UPI) -- Canada beat Russia, 4-3, in Saturday's semifinals of the World Hockey Championship and will play the Czech Republic in Sunday's final.

The Czech Republic beat Sweden, 3-2, in overtime in the other semifinals match.

Joe Thornton had three assists and Martin Brodeur stopped 39 shots for Canada while Wade Redden, Sheldon Souray, Dany Heatley and Ed Jovanovski all scored for the the two-time defending champion.

Redden opened the scoring 1:38 into the game when his long shot went through the legs of Russian netminder Maxim Sokolov. Souray made it 2-0 four minutes later with an assist by Thornton.

Heatley increased Canada's lead to 3-0 midway through the first period and Jovanovski gave Canada a 4-0 lead early in the second period.

The Czechs thanks to Radek Dvorak's score in the extra session. Petr Cajanek and Martin Straka also scored for the Czech Republic in the win.
