MLB: Texas 5, Detroit 4

ARLINGTON, Texas, May 10 (UPI) -- Gary Matthews Jr. hit a seventh-inning home run Tuesday night to break a tie and give the Texas Rangers a 5-4 victory over the Detroit Tigers, 5-4.

Hank Blalock also had a home run and a two-run double and Alfonso Soriano an RBI double for the Rangers, who have won three of their last four games.

Doug Brocail (2-0) got the win with 1 1/3 innings in relief and Francisco Cordero earned his 11th save of the season with a scoreless ninth.

Brandon Inge, Craig Monroe and Omar Infante each had an RBI for the Tigers. Jason Johnson (2-3) pitched a complete game but suffered the loss after giving up five runs on eight hits.
