Federer wins 17th straight match

MIAMI, March 26 (UPI) -- World No. 1 Roger Federer of Switzerland won his 17th straight match Saturday to advance to the third round of the $3.45 million NASDAQ-100 Open.

The Swiss star beat Belgian Olivier Rochus 6-3, 6-1 in 1 hour, 11 minutes. Federer hasn't lost playing Russian Marat Safin in the Australian Open semifinals back in January.

Federer is 27-1 with four titles already this season. Last week, he defeated Aussie Lleyton Hewitt in the Pac Life finale.

Federer, the reigning Wimbledon, U.S. Open and Masters Cup champion, reached the final in Miami in 2002, losing to Andre Agassi.

French Open runner-up Guillermo Coria of Argentina beat Italian Davide Sanguinetti 6-1, 6-4;,Englishman Tim Henman defeated Czech Ivo Minar 6-3, 7-5 ; and French Open champ Gaston Gaudio of Argentina beat German Bjorn Phau 6-2, 6-2 in other second-round play Satuday.
