NBA: Detroit 89, New Jersey 80

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., Jan. 11 (UPI) -- Rasheed Wallace had 19 points and 13 rebounds Tuesday night to lead the Detroit Pistons to an 89-80 victory over the New Jersey Nets.

Richard Hamilton added 18 points and seven assists for Detroit, which has won seven of its last nine games.

Vince Carter led New Jersey with 19 points. Travis Best had 16 points and Jason Kidd had in 13 points, seven assists and six rebounds for the Nets, who have lost four of their last five games.

New Jersey played without leading scorer Richard Jefferson, who is expected to miss the remainder of the season with a severe wrist injury. Jefferson has a ruptured ligament in his left wrist and is expected to have surgery soon.
