Haas shares Tour Championship lead

ATLANTA, Nov. 4 (UPI) -- Jay Haas, less than a month from his 51st birthday, grabbed a share of the first-round lead Thursday at the season-ending Tour Championship.

Haas fired a 3-under 67 at the East Lake Golf Club to tie Jerry Kelly and Darren Clarke for the top spot.

Thirteen members of the 31-man field broke par with David Toms and Zach Johnson tied for fourth at 68.

World No. 1 and leading money winner Vijay Singh, seeking his 10th victory of the year, shot a 69 -- as did Padraig Harrington, Stuart Appleby, Mike Weir and John Daly.

Tiger Woods, playing for the first time since he was married last month, settled for a 72.

Davis Love III was forced to withdraw with a shoulder injury after playing 14 holes.

Winds picked up during the afternoon and the difficult three-hole closing stretch took its toll on the players. The field played the first 15 holes in a combined 2-under and played the final three holes in a combined 26-over.
