MLB: Arizona 3, St. Louis 2

ST. LOUIS, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- Scott Hairston had a two-run single in three-run fourth Sunday as Arizona snapped a nine-game road losing streak with a 3-2 win over St. Louis.

Arizona starter Mike Gosling (1-0) allowed two runs on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings to earn his first win of the season.

Greg Aquino pitched a perfect ninth for his 13th save of the season.

St. Louis starter Jeff Suppan (15-8) allowed three runs on three hits in four innings. He struck out five with three walks.

Larry Walker hit a two-run homer fore the lone offense for St. Louis.

Rick Ankiel, who was making his first appearance in St. Louis, pitched two hitless innings of relief for the Cardinals. He struck out four with just on walk.

St. Louis, which still owns the majors' best record at 97-51, is the first team to earn a playoff spot.
