NEW YORK, Sept. 9 (UPI) -- Mike Mussina allowerd four hits over eight innings Thursday as the New York Yankees downed Tampa Bay in the opener of a doubleheader, 9-1.
Alex Rodriguez and Gary Sheffield both drove in two runs.

Mussina (10-9) surrendered one run and struck out six. He broke a five-game losing streak, the longest of his career.
Felix Heredia worked a scoreless ninth. Tampa Bay starter Dewon Brazelton (6-7) allowed seven runs on nine hits and did not get out of the fourth inning.
