NEW YORK, Aug. 25 (UPI) -- Draws for the U.S. Open have defending champ Andy Roddick meeting an unknown and the Williams sisters on a path that could match them in the final.
The draws for the tennis classic, announced Wednesday, pit top-seeded Roger Federer against veteran Spaniard Albert Costa in the first round that begins Monday.
The women's top seed and reigning U.S. Open titlist, Justine Henin-Hardenne, is slated to meet qualifiers in her first two matches.
The second-seeded Roddick will open defense of his title against little-known African-American Scoville Jenkins.
Third-seeded two-time U.S. Open titlist Serena Williams will open against Czech Sandra Kleinova and could battle her arch-rival Jennifer Capriati in the quarters. Capriati will open up against capable Czech Denisa Chladkova.
Two-time U.S. Open champion Venus Williams, seeded 11th, will meet Hungarian Petra Mandula in her opener.
