MLB: Atlanta 5, San Diego 4

SAN DIEGO, Aug. 17 (UPI) -- Chipper Jones recorded his 300th career home run to lead the Atlanta Braves over the San Diego Padres 5-4 at PETCO Park.

Jones became the fourth player in Braves' franchise history to reach the 300 home run plateau, following Hank Aaron, Eddie Mathews and Dale Murphy.

Andruw Jones and J.D. Drew also homered for the Braves, who have won 18 of their last 21 road games.

Khalil Greene reached base three times and scored a run for the Padres, who fell for the second time in five games.

Mike Hampton won his seventh straight decision in seven innings of work. The lefthander yielded three runs on seven hits and two walks, while striking out three.

Sterling Hitchcock suffered the loss after allowing four runs in 6 1/3 innings.
