Love defends title in International

CASTLE ROCK, Colo., Aug. 4 (UPI) -- Davis Love III defends his championship in the International this week at Castle Pines Golf Club in Colorado.

Love, ranked No. 5 in the world, and Ernie Els, No. 2, are the only top-10 players entered in the event, which uses the Stableford points system.

The tournament opens Thursday with entrants trying for a first prize of $900,000.

Tiger Woods declined an invitation to play in the tournament for the fifth straight year. Others skipping the event include Vijay Singh, a four-time winner this year; Master's champion Phil Mickelson, U.S. Open winner Retief Goosen, John Daly and Sergio Garcia.

British Open champion Todd Hamilton is in the field. Others competing include Chad Campbell, David Toms and Stephen Ames.

Castle Pines is a 7,619-yard course.
