MLB: New York Yankees 2, Baltimore 1

NEW YORK, July 30 (UPI) -- Kevin Brown, fresh off the disabled list, allowed four hits and a run over 6 1/3 innings Friday night as the New York Yankees edged Baltimore, 2-1.

Brown (8-1) had been out of action since June 9 because of back spasms.

Despite allowing two hits in the ninth, Mariano Rivera picked up his 36th save.

Brown gave up a homer to B.J. Surhoff leading off the fourth and the Orioles loaded the bases later in the inning. But Brown struck out Miguel Tejada to end the threat.

Alex Rodriguez tied it in the bottom half of the inning with his 26th homer and Kenny Lofton's sacrifice fly in the fifth produced the game-winning run.
