MLB: Philadelphia 7, Baltimore 6

PHILADELPHIA, July 3 (UPI) -- David Bell hit a two-run homer and Tomas Perez had an RBI single as Philadelphia rallied for three runs in the eighth in a 7-6 win over Baltimore.

The Phillies stormed out to a 3-0 lead in the first. But other than Mike Lieberthal's solo homer in the sixth, Philadelphia was held at bay until breaking through against former Phillie Jason Grimsley in the eighth.

Erik Bedard settled down after a rough beginning to record a career-high 10 strikeouts in his longest major league start. He was relieved in the eighth by Grimsley (3-5), who retired the first batter he faced. But Jim Thome snapped an 0-for-12

drought with a single and Bell tied the game at 6-6.

Perez's hit made a winner of Rheal Cormier (4-3), who allowed a solo blast by Luis Lopez in 1 2/3 innings.
