ANAHEIM, Calif., June 13 (UPI) -- Jon Leicester had three scoreless innings and Todd Walker hit a go-ahead single in the top of the 15th Sunday as the Chicago Cubs beat Anaheim, 6-5.
Chicago used seven pitchers, including closer LaTroy Hawkins, who gave up a tying single to Vladimir Guerrero in the 11th inning, before handing the ball to their only remaining reliever.
Leicester (1-0), who allowed a run in his major league debut on Wednesday, started the 13th and shut down Anaheim, allowing just one hit while striking out two.
Derrek Lee opened the 15th with a single for his second five-hit game of the season. Corey Patterson followed with a bunt single before Lee was erased when Ramon Martinez bunted into a fielder's choice.
After Matt Hensley (0-1) struck out Jose Macias, Walker singled to right to score Patterson.
Leicester surrendered a one-out single in the bottom of the inning but retired the final two batters.
