MLB: Pittsburgh 11, St. Louis 8

ST. LOUIS, May 27 (UPI) -- The Pittsburgh Pirates had 19 hits in an 11-8 win over the St. Louis Cardinals Wednesday.

Daryle Ward hit for the cycle, with a two-run double in the first inning, a triple in the third, a three-run home run in the fifth and a single in the ninth. He also scored three runs.

Jack Wilson had four hits and Jason Kendall added three for the Pirates and each also scored three times.

Pittsburgh ran up an early 10-2 lead for starter Kris Benson (4-3), who pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing seven runs and 11 hits.

The loser was St. Louis starter Jason Marquis (3-4), who gave up nine hits and six runs in four innings. Reliefer Kiko Calero gave up another five hits and four runs in two innings.
