ARLINGTON, Texas, May 9 (UPI) -- Alex Sanchez's second homer of the season snapped an eighth-inning tie Sunday as the Detroit Tigers won a rubber match with the Texas Rangers, 5-3.
With the game deadlocked, 3-3, Sanchez drove a hanging breaking ball from Texas starter Kenny Rogers (4-2) into the right field seats. Following a double by Carlos Guillen and a walk to former Ranger Ivan Rodriguez, Rondell White drove in his secondrun of the game with a single to right off reliever Jeff Nelson.
Nate Robertson (2-2) pitched a season high 7 1/3 innings, allowing three runs -- one earned -- and three hits while striking out seven.
The Rangers pounded out 16 hits and 16 runs on Saturday, but their top five hitters combined to go 0-for-18 with seven strikeouts on Sunday.
