CLEVELAND, April 19 (UPI) -- Jake Westbrook retired all 21 batters he faced Monday, but his relievers failed as Detroit scored six runs in the eighth in a 10-4 win over Cleveland.
The Tigers scored four times against Indians starter Jeff D'Amico before an out was recorded in the first inning. But hail caused a 65-minute delay and when the game resumed, Cleveland turned to Westbrook, who did not allow a runner and matched the longest relief outing of his career.
The Indians forged a 4-4 tie on run-scoring hits by Omar Vizquel and Matt Lawton in the seventh before the Tigers took advantage of Westbrook's absence.
Rafael Bentancourt (0-2) started the eighth and surrendered a one-out single to Carlos Guillen. Ivan Rodriguez followed with a base hit and Rondell White hit his third homer of the season for a 7-4 edge.
