MLB: Cleveland 6, Kansas City 1

KANSAS CITY, Mo., April 8 (UPI) -- Jeff D'Amico and two relievers combined on a five-hitter and Casey Blake homered Thursday as Cleveland defeated Kansas City, 6-1.

The 28-year-old righthander (1-0) allowed one run and four hits in seven innings with a walk and four strikeouts. D'Amico is 3-0 with a 2.02 ERA against Kansas City.

D'Amico, who went 9-16 last season with Pittsburgh, recorded his first American League win since Sept. 17, 1997 with Milwaukee.

Jack Cressend and Rafael Betancourt each pitched a scoreless inning as Cleveland improved to 2-2 on their season-opening seven-game road trip.

The Indians showed little effect from a long night of travel as they got to Kansas City starter Jeremy Affeldt for five runs in the first two innings. A balk led to the first run and consecutive RBI doubles by Ron Belliard and Omar Vizquel capped the three-run second.
