NHL: Dallas 3, St. Louis 1

DALLAS, March 20 (UPI) -- Stu Barnes and Jere Lehtinen scored 27 seconds apart in the third period Saturday as Dallas beat St. Louis, 3-1, to make its home unbeaten streak 18 games.

Playing without defenseman Teppo Numminen, who before the game was diagnosed with a heart ailment that will keep him sidelined indefinitely, the Stars were in a struggle for nearly 2 1/2 periods.

But at 7:56 of the third, Pierre Turgeon passed from behind the net in front to Barnes, who beat goaltender Chris Osgood for a 2-1 lead.

Lehtinen made it 3-1 when he deflected a centering pass from Mike Modano, who was stationed in the right corner.

Marty Turco recorded 19 saves for his 34th win of the season.

Modano's power-play goal gave the Stars a 1-0 lead 5:23 into the second period before the Blues tied it on Ryan Johnson's goal 50 seconds later.
