NHL: Florida 2, Chicago 2 (OT)

CHICAGO, Feb. 29 (UPI) -- Valeri Bure scored a power-play goal with 7:16 remaining in regulation and Roberto Luongo made 43 saves as Florida salvaged a 2-2 tie Sunday against Chicago.

While Florida avoided another loss, it may not be enough. The Panthers entered the day nine points behind the New York Islanders for the eighth and final playoff spot in the NHL Eastern Conference.

Bure, whose turnover opened the floodgates in Friday's 4-1 loss to Washington, scored his 18th goal when he drove to the net and redirected Olli Jokinen's shot from the left faceoff circle.

The Panthers were successful in 35 consecutive shorthanded situations but gave up a power-play goal to Kyle Calder at 12:33 of the first period and another to rookie Tuomo Ruutu nearly eight minutes after Niklas Hagman scored.

Luongo prevented a loss with a diving stop on Mark Bell with 2:13 left in the extra period.
