NBA: Minnesota 97, Los Angeles Lakers 84

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 31 (UPI) -- Latrell Sprewell, Sam Cassell and Kevin Garnett combined to score 83 points Friday night in rallying Minnesota past the Los Angeles Lakers, 97-84.

The Timberwolves avoided what would have been their first back-to-back losses in almost two months.

They took advantage of the absence of Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant, who missed the contest with a hand injury.

Minnesota outscored the Lakers by 15 points in the fourth quarter and shot 47 percent from the field for the game.

Sprewell scored 35, Cassell had 28 and Garnett 20 as they produced all but 14 of the Timberwolves' points.

The Lakers had won two straight after losing four of five. Shaquille O'Neal paced the Lakers with 22.
