Venus, Clijsters advance at Melbourne

MELBOURNE, Jan. 22 (UPI) -- Kim Clijsters crushed Maria Elena 6-0, 6-0 on Thursday to join Venus Williams, Roger Federer and Juan Carlos Ferrero in the third round of the Australian Open.

Clijsters needed just 50 minutes as she continues to recover from an injury suffered earlier this month at the Hopman Cup.

Among the seeded losers were No. 8 Ai Sugiyama of Japan and No. 14 Anna Smashnova-Pistolesi of Israel.
