NBA: Boston 107, Cleveland 82

BOSTON, Jan. 9 (UPI) -- Paul Pierce scored 13 of his 30 points in the third quarter Friday night in helping Boston beat Cleveland for the 13th straight time, 107-82.

Ricky Davis added seven of his 16 in the final period.

Boston was facing Cleveland for the first time since acquiring Davis and centers Chris Mihm and Michael Stewart for forward Eric Williams, center Tony Battie and Kedrick Brown on Dec. 16. This week, Davis referred to Cleveland as "a black hole."

The deal did not help the Cavaliers end their slide in Boston, where they also have lost 12 in a row since Nov. 7, 1997. They have not defeated the Celtics anywhere since Nov. 4, 2000.

Pierce, Mike James and Jiri Welsch each scored seven points in the first quarter as Boston jumped out to a 33-21, making 12 of 23 shots in the opening 12 minutes.
