LOS ANGELES, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- Defenseman Tom Poti delivered a game-winning goal in overtime Tuesday night as the New York Rangers rallied for a 3-2 won over Los Angeles.
Also, after scoring just 18 times in 78 games last season, 43-year-old Mark Messier has 13 in 35 contests this campaign. He has three goals and three assists in his last six contests and New York is 5-2
1 in its last eight.
Poti, who downplayed trade rumors after also delivering the game-winner against Phoenix on Monday, has goals in back-to-back games for the first time this season. He one-timed the puck past Los Angeles goaltender Cristobal Huet after a pass from Alexei Kovalev and inside the left post for his sixth goal.
The Rangers held Los Angeles to just 17 shots after the first period.
The Kings had a seven-game home unbeaten streak snapped (4
3) and fell to 0-1-4-1 in their last six games overall. They fell to 1-4-5 in overtime this season.
