NHL: San Jose 2, Anaheim 1

ANAHEIM, Calif., Dec. 21 (UPI) -- Patrick Marleau and Vincent Damphousse scored goals and Niko Dimitrakos collected two assists as San Jose edged Anaheim Sunday, 2-1.

After the initial meeting on Oct. 21 that Anaheim won, the teams began a stretch of four matchups in a 12-day span when the Mighty Ducks posted a 3-2 victory on December 10. But the Sharks came back to even the series, taking a 2-0 decision three days later.

Already with a 1-0 lead, Damphousse took a pass from Dimitrakos in the left faceoff circle and fired a backhander that beat Jean-Sebastien Giguere to the stick side with San Jose on the power play at 5:28 of the second period.

Anaheim halved the deficit 11 seconds later but could not get the equalizer past Evgeni Nabokov, who turned aside 24 shots, including five in the final 20 minutes.
