NHL: Calgary 2, Columbus 1

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Dec. 19 (UPI) -- Martin Gelinas and Matthew Lombardi scored six minutes apart in the opening period Friday night to give Calgary a 2-1 victory over Columbus.

The Flames extended their unbeaten streak to five games.

Gelinas redirected a shot from the point by Jordan Leopold with 9:05 to go in the period and Lombardi finished a pass from Jarome Iginla on a two-on-one shorthanded breakaway with just over three minutes left.

It was the first regulation victory for Calgary in seven trips to the Nationwide Arena. Calgary has won 11 of its last 15 games (11-1-2-1) overall and improved to 13-2-1-1 when scoring first this season.

Goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff gave up a goal to Rick Nash 93 seconds into the third period. Columbus has just one win in its last 11 games.
