NHL: Nashville 3, Anaheim 1

NASHVILLE, Oct. 9 (UPI) -- David Legwand had a goal and an assist and Tomas Vokoun made 28 saves Thursday night to bring Nashville a 3-1 decision over Anaheim.

It was the second loss in as many nights for the Mighty Ducks, who last year played in the Stanley Cup Finals.

After coming within one victory of a championship, the new-look Ducks opened the season Wednesday with a lackluster 4-1 loss at Dallas.

Andreas Johansson and defenseman Mark Eaton gave Nashville a 2-0 lead with second-period goals before Rob Niedermayer halved the deficit 42 seconds into the third.

But Legwand netted a power-play tally midway through the period to restore the Predators' two-goal cushion.

Vokoun did most of his work in the first 40 minutes, turning aside 22 shots. He helped Nashville to the first home-opening victory in its six-year history.
