The leaders were at 9-under 135 and 21 players were separated by a mere three strokes at the halfway stage.

Henrik Bjornstad of Norway (68), Michael Campbell of New Zealand (68), Paul Lawrie of Scotland (67) and Gary Murphy of Ireland (70) shared fourth place at 136.

Lurking two shots off the pace is world No. 2 Ernie Els, whose 65 on the Old Course has been the low round of the week.
