St. Louis 27, San Francisco 24 (OT)

ST. LOUIS, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- Jeff Wilkins kicked a 28-yard field goal 1:56 into overtuime Sunday to give the St. Louis Rams a 27-24 victory over the San Francisco 49ers.

Jeff Garcia and Terrell Owens collaborated for the tying touchdown late in the fourth quarter, but mistakes by receiver Cedrick Wilson and linebacker Jeff Ulbrich proved costly.

A 15-yard facemask penalty on Ulbrich and a 22-yard catch by Marshall Faulk set up Wilkins field goal.

The Niners (1-1) tied the game when Garcia hit Owens with a 13-yard touchdown pass over the middle with 19 seconds left in the fourth quarter.

San Francisco gambled by going for a squib kick, which was muffed by Rich Coady and recovered by Arnaz Battle at midfield with 13 seconds remaining.

Garcia hit Wilson over the middle for 20 yards and Wilson ran r another nine yards to the St. Louis 26 as time expired.
