Boston 11, NY Yankees 0

NEW YORK, Sept. 6 (UPI) -- Tim Wakefield allowed four hits in seven innings and Nomar Garciaparra's hit a two-run homer Saturday as Boston beat the New York Yankees, 11-0.

The Red Sox, who had a six-run fourth, moved within 1 1/2 games of the lead in the American League East.

Wakefield (10-6) kept the Yankees off balance with his fluttering knuckleball and did not allow a baserunner until Bernie Williams lined a double into right-center field with two outs in the fourth.

Boston held a 1-0 lead when Todd Walker led off the fourth with a single. Garciaparra followed by driving Roger Clemens' 2-2 pitch over the left field fence for his 24th home run.

Clemens (13-9) fell to 8-5 lifetime against his former club. The six-time Cy Young Award winner was tagged for seven runs, seven hits and two walks.
