NY Yankees 8, Boston 4

BOSTON, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- Roger Clemens won his 100th career game at Fenway Park Sunday as the New York Yankees took advantage of some sloppy defense to post an 8-4 triumph over Boston.

In perhaps his final start in the city where he spent his first 15 years, Clemens (13-8) allowed four runs and six hits in 6 2/3 innings.

After another rough outing from relievers Antonio Osuna and Jeff Nelson, Mariano Rivera came on with the bases loaded and two outs in the ninth and struck out Nomar Garciaparra on four pitches to notch his 31st save.

Boston starter Tim Wakefield (9-6) was hammered for six runs and eight hits in six-plus innings.

The Yankees, who have finished first to the Red Sox's second in each of the last five years, have a 5 1/2 game bulge over Boston with 27 games to play.
