Baltimore 7, NY Yankees 2

NEW YORK, Aug. 23 (UPI) -- Rodrigo Lopez had 10 strikeouts and Brook Fordyce had a two-run triple as Baltimore posted a 7-2 victory Saturday over the New York Yankees.

Lopez (6-8) baffled the Yankees, who scored both runs in the third. The righthander served up a solo homer to Jorge Posada and an RBI base hit to Karim Garcia but gave up just three singles there rest of the way and pitched his third career complete game.

For the second straight game, Fordyce came through with a clutch hit. He hit a two-run triple to right field off former Oriole Mike Mussina (14-7) that gave Baltimore a 3-2 advantage.

Coming off a three-hitter on Sunday at Camden Yards, Mussina allowed six runs and nine hits in 8 1/3 innings.

The loss trimmed New York's lead in the American League Eastern Division to 5 1/2 games over Boston.
