KANSAS CITY, Mo., Aug. 12 (UPI) -- Mike Mussina worked eight innings and Jorge Posada went 4-for-5 with a pair of RBI Tuesday as the New York Yankees posted a 6-0 victory over Kansas City.

Mussina (13-6) yielded just four hits to win his third straight decision.

Posada's RBI double off Kansas City starter Darrell May (5-6) in the first inning gave Mussina all the support he needed.

Posada, who finished a triple shy of the cycle, added his 20th homer to lead off the sixth inning to match his total from last season. Mussina survived his only major jam in the first inning. Raul Ibanez singled with two outs and Mike Sweeney and Joe Randa walked. But Mussina struck out Desi Relaford on four pitches for the final out.

Closer Mariano Rivera yielded a pair of hits in the ninth inning to complete the Yankees' seventh shutout of the season.
