Jacobsen wins Greater Hartford Open

CROMWELL, Conn., July 27 (UPI) -- Peter Jacobsen shot a 3-under-par 67 Sunday for a two-stroke victory in the Greater Hartford Open he won 19 years ago.

As a 30-year-old in 1984, Jacobsen won this event in the first year it was played at the TPC of Connecticut. It was his second win of that year.

But Jacobsen won just once over the next 10 years. He won a pair of events early in 1995 but had not won since, finishing no better than 138th on the money list the last four years.

Just eight months away from his 50th birthday and eligibility for the Champions Tour, Jacobsen said he was sparked by the recent play of Craig Stadler and Tom Watson, a pair of veterans who have won events in the last two weeks.

Jacobsen had a solid but unspectacular final round. He finished at 14-under 266, two shots better than Chris Riley.
