Three NASCAR teams fined

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., July 9 (UPI) -- NASCAR on Wednesday levied fines of $25,000 to three teams and took away driver and owner points for infractions at Daytona last week.

Michael Waltrip and car owner Teresa Earnhardt were docked 25 points and crew chief Richard Labbe was fined $25,000 for unapproved carburetor modifications. Labbe was fined an additional $500 for an unapproved roof strip.

Waltrip is currently fifth in the Winston Cup standings. The penalty drops him 417 points behind leader Matt Kenseth.

The No. 4 Morgan-McClure Motorsports Pontiac team was penalized for having an unapproved fuel cell container modification that found by NASCAR officials during a pre-race inspection.

Crew chief Chris Carrier was fined $25,000 while driver Stacy Compton and owner Larry McClure were each docked 25 points.

The same penalties were levied against Kyle Petty's No. 45 Petty Enterprise Dodge, which was found to have unapproved rear jack bolts.
