Soriano remains top vote-getter in AL

NEW YORK, June 23 (UPI) -- New York Yankees second baseman Alfonso Soriano remains the top vote-getter in the latest American League balloting for the 74th All-Star Game.

This year's game will take place on July 15 at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago.

Soriano has 881,865 votes, more than 300,000 ahead of Bret Boone of the Seattle Mariners at his position in the latest results released Monday.

Jorge Posada of the Yankees is the runaway leader at catcher with 703,947 votes, more than doubling A.J. Pierzynski of the Minnesota Twins (257,620).

Alex Rodriguez of the Texas Rangers, who is trying to become the starting AL shortstop for the sixth time in seven years, is second overall with 697,651 votes.

Seattle's Ichiro Suzuki has been the AL's top vote-getter each of the past two seasons and leads all outfielders with 704,346 votes.
