New York 10, Anaheim 4

NEW YORK, May 15 (UPI) -- Alfonso Soriano ignited the offense with his 12th career leadoff home run Thursday night as the New York Yankees pounded Aaron Sele for eight runs in just 2 2/3 innings for a 10-4 victory over the Anaheim Angels.

New York snapped a three-game slide and avoided a sweep to the Angels, who beat the Yankees in last year's division series before going on to win the franchise's first World Series title.

The teams have split six games this season, with each club winning two of three on the road.

Jeff Weaver (3-2) snapped a personal two-game losing streak, allowing three runs and eight hits in 6 2/3 innings with four walks and four strikeouts.

Soriano's homer started a three-run first as the Yankees built a 3-0 lead on RBI singles by Bernie Williams and Jorge Posada.

New York tacked on two runs in the second, two in the second, three in the third and two in the fourth to build a 10-1 cushion.

Sele (1-1), who allowed nine hits, left after giving up a run-scoring double to Derek Jeter.
