Texas 5, Oakland 4

ARLINGTON, Texas, April 10 (UPI) -- Rookie Mark Teixeira belted a three-run homer in the fourth inning and Carl Everett hit a tie-breaking solo shot in the eighth as the Texas Rangers rallied from a four-run deficit and posted a 5-4 victory over the Oakland Athletics Thursday.

Oakland scored single runs in each of the first four innings and appeared on its way to sweeping the three-game series and beating the Rangers for the 10th straight time.

But Teixeira, who was 0-for-16 before he got his first major league hit on Wednesday, made his first major league home run a big one, a three-run shot blast over the left field fence that pulled Texas within 4-3.

Texas tied the game in the sixth when Ruben Sierra drew a walk, was sacrificed over and scored on a two-out single by Michael Young off Ted Lilly.

Everett then led off the eighth with a home run off reliever Chad Bradford (1-1) to snap the tie.

Francisco Cordero (1-1) pitched a hitless eighth inning for the win and Ugueth Urbina worked a perfect ninth for his third save.
