Marquette 68, Wake Forest 61

MILWAUKEE, Feb. 9 (UPI) -- Robert Jackson scored 19 points and Scott Merritt chipped in with 16 points as the 14th-ranked Golden Eagles extended their home winning streak to 28 games Sunday with a 68-61 victory over the 15th-ranked Demon Deacons.

Marquette (17-3) usually relies solely on star guard Dwyane Wade, who bounced back from a poor outing with 18 points. Wade received help from his pair of less-publicized teammates, who helped foul out Demon Deacons freshman center Eric Williams and dominated the glass.

Jackson's follow shot early in the second half ignited nine straight points that gave Marquette the lead for good. The run was capped by a terrific play by Wade, who used a back pass to set up Travis Diener for a 3-pointer for a 40-31 lead with 14:32 remaining.

Josh Howard, the second leading scorer in the Atlantic Coast Conference, led Wake Forest (16-3) with 20 points. The Demon Deacons had a four-game winning streak snapped.
